StiRx to Present Novel Gonorrhea Vaccine Approach at IPNC 2026

Boston, MA — August 2026  StiRx will present new research on its novel approach to gonorrhea vaccine development at the 25th International Pathogenic Neisseria Conference (IPNC 2026) in Western Australia this September.

The presentation comes at an important moment for gonorrhea vaccine development. A recently reported randomized clinical trial found that the four-component meningococcal B vaccine 4CMenB provided no protection against gonorrhea, challenging the expectation that cross-reactive immunity generated by an OMV-based meningococcal vaccine would translate into meaningful protection against Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

StiRx is pursuing a fundamentally different strategy: designing gonococcus-specific immunogens around defined, conserved targets and the functional antibody responses they are intended to generate.

The company's approach is based on the premise that simply generating antibodies that recognize N. gonorrhoeae may not be sufficient for protection. Instead, StiRx is applying rational antigen and epitope design to direct immunity toward functionally vulnerable features of the pathogen.

The research to be presented at IPNC 2026 provides preclinical evidence supporting this precision-immunogen approach to gonorrhea vaccination.

StiRx is advancing this vaccine strategy alongside STX-426, a long-acting monoclonal antibody targeting a conserved gonococcal surface epitope and being developed as a potential pre-exposure prophylaxis for gonorrhea.
